Writer Joe Berlinger, who previously worked for NBC Sports and CBS Sports, will write play by play for the NHL playoffs beginning with Game 6 on Wednesday.
Berlinger will be covering Game 1 between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Anaheim Ducks.
The play-in game will air live on NBC at 4 p.m.
The game will be televised on NBC Sports Live Extra.
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me to bring you the hockey equivalent of a live game,” Berlinger said in a statement.
“I’ve never been a fan of sports and this is an opportunity to be a part of something that is so much bigger than myself.
I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to do this and I look forward to sharing my opinions on the game that will determine the outcome of this historic series.”
Berlinger was hired by NBC Sports after joining CBS Sports as an analyst in 2016.
He previously worked as an NHL analyst for the New York Islanders and the Los Angeles Kings.
The Penguins will open the series against the Ducks at 5 p.t. in Anaheim.
Game 1 will be broadcast on NBC from 6 p.l.t., with the Penguins facing the Ducks in Game 2 on Wednesday at 8 p.d.
The Ducks will host Game 3 on Thursday.
The Ducks won the Presidents’ Trophy in 2016 and earned the best record in the Pacific Division in 2017.
The Penguins are 11-7-3 in the playoffs and are currently in the second round.
The NHL has a record of 27-21-4 in the postseason.
